Airlines rigorously adhere to their baggage rules and require charging additional fees (or may even refuse you the additional baggage) for the carriage of items with size excess / extra weight. The same applies to excess baggage.
Our suggestion is: Do not hope for indulgence. Take care of the airline baggage allowance rules and make sure you comply with all of them: size, weight, count. Baggage with additional weight and size implies extra spending.
